Why Prep Matters

Preparing The Right way with Experts on the GMAT Focus Edition

The GMAT isn't an exam you can prepare for by simply memorising concepts or revising formulas. It assesses your ability to think clearly in stressful situations, use time effectively and make accurate decisions. Those skills require practice, not cramming. The key to the difference between an average score and a great one is to prepare the right way from the beginning.

🎯

The Quant Section Is More Reasoning Than Calculation

The Focus Edition has revolutionized the way Quant is tested. It no longer includes any geometry topics, but is all about Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency. The key to success is not to memorize formulas, but to think logically. The section is often difficult for students with good maths skills when they are timed.

🔢

Data Insights Needs Dedicated Preparation

One of the most significant changes in the GMAT Focus Edition is Data Insights. It includes Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation, and Two-Part Analysis in one section. It demands a different strategy and students who do not study it independently tend to perform less well than they might.

📖

GMAT Verbal Is Different from Everyday English

Being comfortable with English isn't enough for the GMAT. Critical Reasoning is a test that assesses your ability to detect assumptions, analyze arguments, and select the most reasonable answer. Reading Comprehension passages are dense and many of the answer choices are distracters. Structured reasoning is the key to success, not language skills.

⏱️

Time Management Is a Skill You Need to Build

You will have approximately 45 minutes per section, and time can fly by if you spend too much time on a challenging question. Knowing when to move on, when to make an educated guess, and how to pace yourself throughout the entire section is an important aspect of GMAT preparation.

📊

Your GMAT Score Matters More Than You Think

The GMAT is used to compare applicants from different academic and professional backgrounds at business schools. Average GMAT scores also factor into business school rankings, so admissions committees take them into consideration. A competitive score can help bolster your application, and a lower score can hurt your chances at highly selective programs.

📈

Breaking a Score Plateau Requires the Right Strategy

Most students don't stop improving because they've reached their limit. Typically, they make the same errors in Quant, Verbal or Data Insights and do not see the pattern. It is not enough to take more mock tests. The key to real improvement is to know your weak points and work on them.

GMAT Trainers at ScoreGetter

GMAT vs GRE

Should You Take the GMAT or the GRE for Business School?

Most MBA programs now accept both. The question isn't which one is better — it's which one plays to your strengths. And the only reliable way to find out is to take a diagnostic for both before committing weeks of prep to either one.

How to Book

How to Register for the GMAT — What You Need to Know Before You Book

Start by creating a free account on mba.com. Ensure that your name is the same on your passport. A slight variation in names can be an issue on test day, so use your legal name as it is on your ID.

1

Create an Account on mba.com

Go to mba.com and create a free account. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your passport — the name on your account must match your ID on test day. This is non-negotiable and mismatches cause real problems.

2

Choose Test Centre or Online

SThe GMAT exam can be taken at a test centre or online. Pearson VUE has authorised test centres throughout Chennai for students. For the online exam, you must have a quiet room, a reliable internet connection, and a computer that meets the technical requirements. The exam, scoring and difficulty are identical in both formats.

3

Pick Your Date and Time Slot

The GMAT is administered year-round, so you can take it when it works best for you. No specific test windows. Popular evening and weekend times can get booked up fast, so if you have a preferred time, it's best to book early.

4

Choose Your Section Order

The GMAT Focus Edition allows you to choose the order of the three sections prior to the start of the test. Some students like to begin with the easiest part, but it will depend on your test-taking approach.

📌 Booking Tips from ScoreGetter
  • Book your test date as soon as you have a clear sense of your application timeline — evening and weekend slots at Chennai centres fill faster than most students expect
  • Leave room for a potential retake. If your first test is within 16 days of an application deadline, you won't have time for a retake before submitting
  • GMAC's Enhanced Score Report is worth purchasing — it gives you section-level performance data that helps diagnose what to target in a retake
  • Score Select lets you choose which attempts to send to each school. You can send any or all of your attempts — schools only see what you submit, not what you withhold
  • Check your specific target school's score policy before selecting which attempts to send — a small number of programs require all scores
  • Your name on mba.com must match your passport exactly. Check this before paying — fixing a name mismatch after booking is a paperwork headache
